Blender Tutorials: Today, we're taking a very quick and basic look at Eevee's blending options, which determine how Alpha transparency is computed. In other words, how it overlays things that are see through.

The very fast tip is that you'll usually want Alpha Blend with Show Backface unchecked. It's fast and gives good results, except for the situations where it doesn't. And that's what the rest of the thread will be about.

Tutorial time! Today, we're looking briefly at the Index. It took me a little while to understand when I first started working in Geometry Nodes, but it's fundamental and important to understand.

The screenshot is the Spreadsheet, which is included as standard in a Geometry Nodes workspace, but people don't think about it too much. Buuut this is kinda closer to how Blender sees your data. We're meeting it halfway here.

Ciao ragazzi, c'é qualcuno che ha letto il libro di "Il club delle 5 del mattino"?

State riuscendo ad applicare bene i suoi principi? Come vi state trovando?

Se avete altre letture del genere consigliatemele pure, vi condivido le mie ;)

Quickie today, with an easy-ish problem & solution. Let's say you're distributing random points on two different meshes, and you'd like them to have the same number. Maybe you'd like to move points from one to the other, so you want them to match. How do you accomplish that?

The attached image is our starting point. We've got a cube and a cylinder, both with points distributed on their faces, and combined so we can see them together.

Tutorial time! Today, I want to introduce you to the Set Position node, one of the most powerful and versatile nodes in the Geometry Nodes toolkit. It's inside the majority of my custom nodes, and does the bulk of the work.

What does it do? In very literal terms, it runs through the points/vertices it's given, and sets their position to a new value. If you give it the vector position 0,0,0, all of your points will now be there.

Blender Tip: in Geometry Nodes, Blender will notify you of an invalid connection by making it red. It's hard to miss. In this case, I've plugged a field (computed) node into a input that's for constants only. HOWEVER, sometimes it still works. Like in this case. When will it still work? That's tricky. ;)

I just realised that instead of painting a palette on a new layer I could just screenshot my recently used colours and paste into place, and that's much faster and I don't miss any, and it doesn't change as I copy them if I want to create a larger area of colour.

@Curator tips for your first from someone in :

- As much as possible, rehearse as you will perform. So none of the equipment/setting/etc is new to you.
- Practice the singing at full volume and dancing at full capacity whenever possible. Going through the motions is less beneficial.
- Look over the heads of the back row of the ground floor seating.
- No matter what happens on stage, just act like it was meant to, people will 100% believe you.

Tip: buy scrap clay not

Air dry clay rates v low on all workability qualities. Compensating will likely interfere w learning sculpture technique & your creative process.

Ceramic studios sell clay offcut blend/scrap mix, this is cheaper & has far superior workability.

- No kiln? Real clay air dries just as well as air dry clay. AND you can later fire it if you get kiln access.

- Why these issues? Air dry clay isn't clay, it's cornstarch and/or paper dough.

Utilising can be very handy for artists who are easily over stimulated and overwhelmed. This works across different media, I use it in photography, watercolour and even sewing.

Designing in monochrome is great for if you find your designs often feel distractingly messy, untidy, confused or cluttered, especially in the middle of the design process.

If you want to you can add colour towards the end of the process.

@Curator tips for singing in a choir for the first time

- It's okay to wear a mask while singing, even if no one else is
- Unless the organisers specifically say otherwise, it's okay if you can't read music
- Stand beside someone who:
*shares a similar vocal range with you
*already knows the repertoire
*reads music easily
(this list sounds like a big ask, but this person is very likely to be there and happy to meet you)
- Be aware you may be expected to sing different notes from what you normally would even in a song you know well, this might be challenging, everyone will understand.
- Your mind may try to fight you and sing the tune you already know (likely the melody). Each time this happens you can just sing very softly, people around you will lead and you will quickly fall into following the correct part.
- If you do happen to already know all the melodies to all the songs and your voice is fairly high, you could choose to identify as a soprano (even that's not the perfect part for you) just while you get comfortable. The soprano line is very often the melody. Do move to the best part for you when you gain confidence though, it will be more comfortable for you body.
- Most choirs, including the really impressive ones, are more focused on community building than musical proficiency. So don't stress about if you musical performance is good enough, instead make friends, check out the vibe and decide if this is a good space for you.

No matter what field - there will always be gatekeepers telling you the best way, the only way & that you are doing thing wrong. Quite a lot of them will be talking bollocks.

Recognise you don't know enough to know which ones - try the things out that resonate, discard the things that don't work for you. You'll come to your own way of working in time.

(& be patient - almost everyone, apart from the odd super annoying person, has a shaky start. you'll get there)

When working on a or it's very helpful to think in terms of planes. Pretend your subject is a lowpoly 3D and figure out its surface planes.

In paintings you can use them as a guide to cast lights and shadows, making rim light very easy (follow the planes, not the outline).

In drawings when hatching you can add depth by hatching in the same direction of a plane (if it's vertical, vertical lines) or flatten by doing it in the opposite direction.

If you have access to a library, online or off, use it! My local library system has literally thousands of physical and e-books about art, & they sometimes offer free art workshops (mostly online). Public libraries are an invaluable resource! If you have one, take advantage!
