Not a real picture, but a bit of fun to mark last night's blue supermoon. Supermoons are when the moon looms larger in the sky because it's briefly closer to the Earth. A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. This was done with photoshop, but both images were taken in Glasgow.

Sat outside tonight and saw 4 shooting stars which is still always a treat.
Also saw multiple single lights goes south to north. Similar to ISS but wrong location for that or Starlink.

The July 2023 issue of #SkyatNight magazine features this fun DIY project which is a great way of introducing the concept of orbits to beginners. It's super easy to make. Obviously not to scale; read the article to find out what it would look like if it was! #Astronomy #AstronomyDIY #AstronomyProjects

Nightfall over Beechwood Drive in Broomhill, Glasgow. If you look closely in the top right quarter, you'll see two small bright dots. These are Venus (higher up) and Jupiter (lower down), which are clearly visible in the western sky just after sunset at the moment

Big news for wild darkness. There’s a big team and years of work behind this designation. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

#Threethings for Wed Nov 16: 1. The powerful #SLS rocket has launched, taking the uncrewed #ArtemisI mission to the Moon. Nice explainer from the BBC here: https://t.co/PttBvW1rVY 2. Had fun at Didcot Café Scientifique yesterday; stumped as ever by how to satisfyingly answer ‘but what is the #Universe expanding into?’. Anyone got good pithy answers? (‘It’s not’ is accurate but not satisfying) 3. Our mad #skyatnight on cosmic mysteries seems to have gone down well. On iplayer now
