I have finally moved to #Slackware from #OpenBSD... Working out trying out using multiple users to compartmentalize information and data.
I'm not sure how I feel about being back in the days of building software from sources, but I enjoy the simplicity and I'm hoping security updates for the core packages are in a 'good' state.
I didn't really research much, but I used Slackware for 10 years, in a previous life, so I'm happy to be back home.
Latest #Slackware 15 update:
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:
# rocs (graph theory IDE)
Say what?
Slackware always has a new package up its sleeve! 😋

@userfxnet here's @kaixin 's phost on dinit devuan instead of systemd debian as requested:

@pkw is dinit also popular for #slackware ?
I finally joined that cohort of people who install open-source software for personal usage on a VPS.
More fun than painful. The good part was that built it all on a #Slackware installation.
What’s next, folks? Activepub? Productivity tools? What’s trending? 🤣
Running many Linux/android/BSD different distributions(OS) is somehow burdensome since I have take care of them in terms of upgrade..
Currently i have #lineageos , #pmos , my own #slackware based one and #freebsd one as daily drivers. ;-(
They all have largely different upgrade ways...
#lineageos #pmos #slackware #freebsd
A very belated #introduction:
My name is Justin, of course. My first computer was an Apple IIe with an 80-column card that I learned BASIC on. These days I’m longtime Linux user ( #Slackware —> #Debian) and as of late have been dabbling in #FreeBSD and wrapping my head around #ZFS.
I’ve worked with C++, Python, Perl and JavaScript; currently learning #Golang — but am really passionate about a well-written, POSIX-compatible Bourne shell script.

And remember, folks:
"Real software engineers work from 9 to 5, because that is the way the job is described in the formal spec.
Working late would feel like using an undocumented external procedure."
I call this one: "Overtime considered Evil". 🤓
(And Upaid Overtime is extremely Evil)
Courtesy of today's #Slackware fortune. Of course.

Ok .. question for the #slackware #linux hive mind ... Why would my #vmware based VM not get past Loading Linux after LILO? I have GPT-based partition map and LILO in the MBR, but it's just not starting. What could I be missing?
Decided it was time for a throwback. I'm installing a #slackware #linux instance on #VMware. Been using Ubuntu lately, but still have a fondness for Slackware. Wanna see what's changed.
Don't apologize, one of the reasons I started working on CIS for #slackware was to explore that kind of stuf!
CIS Linux Guide:
"The FAT filesystem format is used by UEFI systems for the EFI boot partition. Disabling the vfat module can prevent boot on UEFI systems."
Gee, thanks CIS, I would have never guessed.
Fortunately, that can be easily tested with:
$ grep -i .fat /etc/fstab
UUID=B492-2B28 /boot/efi vfat umask=0077 0 1
(Small progress on the CIS Guide for #Slackware )
There's not a lot of point to running #slackware current on WSL2... but then, there's not a lot of point to most other things in life 🙂
I know, I know, I know. But on my laptop I am running NixOS. Specifically that, I'm not a dev, flakes are either in the snow or in my joghurt. After a 1st try months ago I appreciate it more now; edited my conf file (added bluetooth, printing, firewall et al) and it is really very nice. But I ain't forgetting Slackware! That'll be the desktop. Weekend job I think. Feel inclined to start Thursday already 😎
