I really like the idea of joining a chapter of the SRA, but being a city dweller who doesn't own a car... My options are limited. Even if I had the means to legally acquire a gun, I would need to take a lot of time out of my already exhausted schedule to travel to a range to train... And I am pretty sure transporting a rifle by bike is like... Super illegal for some reason.
Fine then. I don't really like guns. I am really only interested out of a sense of duty. Y'know what this DnD playing, fantasy loving nerd does love though...
Archery would be rad as shit. It's quiet, pretty sure easier and cheaper to acquire... But I run into the same issues as far as finding somewhere to practice, and again... Riding my bike with a bow and quiver stashed very visibly while biking through populated areas feels like the fast track to having a forced conversation with some cops.
Which leads me to what I think is perhaps a logical conclusion... A slingshot?
They are cheap, don't need a lot of space to practice, and easily stowed in a small bag or large pocket. Bands seem to be fussier than bow strings (and potentially harder to source if the supply chain breaks down). Ammo is cheap, and in a pinch, free. And I feel like while a slingshot will never be anyone's first choice in a disaster, I imagine its full utility is as a training tool. So if things get wild and I NEED a ranged weapon, I at least know the basics of dialing in my aim. And hey, if the slingshot is all that's available, I'll be glad to know what I am doing.
Plus, I could see getting other folks trained being a lot easier... Going to a range is a bigger commitment than hanging out with some friends and popping litter you find while you are hanging out outdoors.
I know it's probably silly, but "get a gun and train" just isn't practical for most of us. I am sure other folks have thought of other alternatives... I'd love to know your thoughts.

I would like to kindly request to see your #3DPrinting designs you released personally I like #slingshots personally I do target practice & shoot spiders/bug under 1 ft/lb per oz mass yes It is legal in my own city’s limits to discharge slingshots but I follow #sar which stands for #safety , Accountable & responsible however to Clarify anyone who is trying to annoy spiders is something I do not tolerate so if your shooting a spider you got to have enough power to blow the wind out of the spider
