I use the #Mastodon website in my browser/s, with #AdvancedWebInterface & #SlowMode enabled. Each morning, over muesli & coffee, i #PageDown my Home timeline to find the last posts i read before bed last night, then begin reading up the timeline. Given i #Follow a fairly large number of #Hashtags, each morning i have a really impressively large "cornucopia" to digest. It would help the process a lot if that initial Page Down [actually tbh, i rarely use that key, instead using the so-called End key] could automagically take me in *one* jump to the last post i had read. I wish the Masto website for each Instance had an extra setting in Preferences that enabled such functionality. 🤞

I think that's why I complained so much when the #slowmode thing was going on and was so happy when it was resolved.

@captainb Exactly, yes! I do however keep questioning myself as to WHY it should make me stressed when #SlowMode is off & my Home keeps quite rapidly changing. I mean, ostensibly, such a minor detail sounds like it should be so trivial as to be inconsequential. Yet, each time i've tried it, it really does end up [rapidly] feeling just horrible. 😱

Once again i've briefly retried disabling #Masto #SlowMode. I think i probably only lasted about a half hour, before now re-enabling it. Having it off is just sooooooooooooooo super stressful! 😱

I need a bloody payrise for this extreme labour requirement!! Maybe i'll go on strike, or hold my breath!

Given this entirely [for me] unexpected "recovery" of dear Kolektiva's #SlowMode #timeline auto-updating functionality, & given a hair-tearingly frustrating problem* i've been unable to solve in my shiny new #Infosec #Instance, i've now decided to abandon my plan to fully migrate from K to I. I shall stay with K, & need now to decide whether i'll fully kill off my nascent I account, or otherwise place it into some kind of dormancy in the event of still needing some future "escape pod".

* In all other aspects, even with last night's little flutter of temporary panic over my naive choice of Infosec in complete ignorance of certain implications / imputations, my new Infosec account had seemed to be going great. With one significant exception. Several favourite #NewsBots have simply refused to play nice with my Infosec account. They worked fine back in my original Instance, #Fosstodon, & they still work fine in #Kolektiva , but inexplicably & tbh quite infuriatingly, either they each refuse to feed Infosec, or Infosec refuses to accept their feeds. I fought them for much of yesterday, & had just resumed the battle this morning, when i became utterly distracted by the discovery of Kolektiva's recovery. 🤯

TL;DR: Contrary to my recent announcement, in fact atm i expect my ongoing main/active account shall remain https://kolektiva.social/@MsDropbear .

Who knew endlessly moaning about an issue would get results?

It turns out the whole #slowmode issue was caused when Sally Kolektiva was leaning back in her office chair and accidentally toggled the "Freeze the feeds and notifications for @ophiocephalic @MsDropbear42 @jdp23 @flowers @Air_Quotes_Comedian @MsDropbear"

It's all back to normal now and I can't express how happy this makes me. Well, I suppose I could express how happy it makes me now that I think about it, but I'm far too lazy to do so.

It's amazing how alive it all feels again after being frozen in amber for so long.

Thankyou for fixing the problem. Thanks to everybody who collectively complained about it and kept on doing so. I'd also like to thank the Academy, my Mum....

I am completely satisfied and I'll never complain or moan about anything ever again

I'll miss Kolektiva too, but I'm already alienated from the local timeline due to #SlowMode . Anyway there are means emerging to view the local timeline of any instance. I believe CalcKey allows you to do this from the web interface, and mobile Mastodon clients like IceCubes can do it too. Would prefer to have a fully functional experience and still tune in to the local here.

The admin's (non-)response to my petitions have turned me off of this project. I was a Kolektiva Kommunard until yesterday. Time to move on ✌️

My new #Instance, https://infosec.exchange, is auto-reloading just gangbusters! It's so nice to have the full functionality back again. Also, btw, if you were wowed by Kolektiva's fabbo 10K character post allowance, then behold my new one's even more gobsmacking 11K 😮 Plus, melikes, the infosec advanced webview UI has an optional "flavour" or "skin", which whilst looking broadly similar to default #Masto, includes several nice little subtle UI / post tools & icons. So it's a nice bonus discovery, IMO.

I went to bed last night having decided that if the morrow [ie, my Now] brought no change, i would begin the tedious hunt for a new #Instance for me. Now, in addition to my "no response", to herein learn of the dismissive unhelpful response you received, my mind is now set... tis time to leave. 😭

It's such a bugger needing to do this, but, now it's unavoidable. Though i'm mainly disappointed & irritated about this scenario, part of me also giggles in delight at the whole irony of the situation. Truly this is a "hoist on one's own petard" moment. I chose an #Instance that was #anarchical, so who am i to complain if reality shows me one inevitable consequence of #anarchy is... no interest in performing appropriate IT upkeep, maintenance, & user-support. I mean, tbh, viewed in this light, it's actually rather amusing.

So, this was my second-ever #Instance [meaning only my live-in-daily ones, not my still existing spare that i never actually use "for real"]. I made a #donation to both my 1st, & this my 2nd, coz it seemed like the right thing to do. Then, in different ways, both let me down. Clearly, logically, my donating *must* have been the problem, ergo, once i decide on my next home, & move to it, i shan't dare donate to it, lest i once more bring on the horsepeeps of the apocalypse! 😜

Kolektiva meta - broken website interface auto-update

My attempts to ring the bell on this got a reply from one mod, who explained they were busy and suggested that I solve the problem myself. Sadly, I haven't the slightest expertise in the issue of troubleshooting a Mastodon server. A followup suggestion invited me to leave. Indeed.

So, if this problem is making your experience here unpleasant, you need to be aware that it's not getting fixed anytime soon. TBH, with the possible impending Zuckerberg takeover and the dysfunction of the network's major anarchist instance, it's beginning to feel like the prefigurative potential of the fediverse is slipping away.

Suggestion that before you migrate, check in with the admin of any instance you're considering about their position on Meta. From the info circulating, it seems that most of the larger instances intend to federate with the Zuckerberg surveillance entity.

Who knew I’d be so invested in what people are doing in their gardens? I’m just glad, in one garden, that the peaches are bug free this year because bird feeders were put out (The bugs don’t eat the bird seed if that’s what you’re thinking, and was also my first thought).

The little dramas and slices of life people choose to share here create quite the tapestry at kolektiva.

That’s another reason why I love this place.

Atm, for several weeks, kolektiva.social has been & continues to suffer an IT problem. I fully realise this is NOT a moderation issue, but in desperation i am now writing to your team with this plea...

Please, using your normal back-office processes, would you contact @admin & bring this thread to their urgent attention? Also, if they search tag #SlowMode, they will see several other posts & threads on this problem.

Some of us have been diligently including @admin in our posts re this problem, in the hope they will respond to us with advice on the problem, & ofc a solution. Unfortunately, so far, we've had no response... & the problem continues.

Personally, i feel so exasperated by this substantial degradation of the #Mastodon experience that if still no response & fix occurs, i'll need to move to another #Instance. I sincerely hope not to need to do that.

TL;DR: For weeks, kolektiva.social has stopped auto-updating its Notifications, Home, Local, Federated timelines. New content only appears after users must constantly manually reload the site. The symptoms persist independent of which browser, which app, which operating system, which IP address. It persists regardless of using Simple or Advanced Web View, Slow Mode On or Off.

Actually, possibly not! I've now heard back from one peep that `Universeodon.com` is behaving perfectly fine [& now in hindsight i might even have misunderstood them back when this problem first began; i thought they were telling me then that they had the problem too, but now i suspect they might have been saying the opposite --- if so, then atm, i do not (any more) have data on any other Instance being bad, ie, only OUR Instance]. If true, IMO that's good news for us... IF we can somehow get @admin to actually notice all our posts on this problem, teehee.

Mastodon.online is at version 4.1.2, no pattern on versions yet. Still wondering about cloudflare.
