I’m making a conscious effort to try to ignore breaking news, and resist the urge to share juicy tidbits that have no immediate meaning. News is important, but I’m not sure we need it so quickly. Hot takes are not conducive to thoughtful reflection. Better to wait and see what happens, then talk about it. This is just me. Not suggesting anyone else change their behavior.

This concept first appeared in print in the 16th century. “Euill news neuer commeth to late.” Since then, the speed at which news travels has only gotten progressively faster. Despite this apparent progress, there is very little evidence that having information delivered quickly has been of any cultural benefit for most of us, outside of military strategists and corporate raiders.
