@dadandtwo Look up #swales and #SlowTheFlow for land management that improves water retention without watering. Also #permaculture design can give good sight specific ideas. We have used all of these on our 2 acres where flooding can be as much a problem as drought.

@kindjourneys excellent. The key I believe is for farmers and landowners upstream to allow seasonal flooding which will then #SlowTheFlow downstream. Whatever we can do to spread the word is worth doing.

We have been here 6 years and planted all the #trees you can see. The #willow is 4 years old, the #alder in the foreground has been in for 2. As this thickens into a copse it will further #SlowTheFlow but that takes years. It should always be resistant to seasonal flooding, but whether it is enough for #ClimateChange is anyone’s guess. 😔

@DrMollyman do you think we can move fast enough? Never seen rain like it here in Fife although we have had seasonal flooding in the years we lived here. We are working to retain water on our land #SlowTheFlow across it and plant sensitively for seasonal floods but it isn’t enough and the willow is going well whereas the alder needs another 10 years or so to establish and we may not have that time. #NoBareEarth #SoilsAndFood

Flooded! #SlowTheFlow the Fernie Burn has burst its banks. We can hold this water on the #Smallholding and it means a slower flow down to the houses in Cupar. We are planting #trees such as #alder and #willow in time they will help to keep the water here longer and so improve the flow downstream.
