When I was a student, everyone was reading #TheWaspFactory by #IainBanks - in what I now see to be an early instance of my bloody minded avoidance of ‘popular’ things (see also: #SlumdogMillionaire), I decided I wouldn’t. I then went on to read loads of Banks’ books but not, until now, his first.
