I was frustrated by it, so I built a tool! it has two parts:

1. FakeRelay provides an API so that you can index toots using the same API relays use. But only you control what gets indexed :) check it out at https://github.com/g3rv4/FakeRelay/ and if you're interested send me a DM and I'll get you a key, or you can run it yourself!

2. A small tool that imports toots from instances you decide as long as they have the appropriate #hashtag. You can run it on a cron job so that relevant content flows into your instance magically! you can check it out at https://github.com/g3rv4/GetMoarFediverse

Let me know what you think, hopefully this is a small step into making #MastoAdmins and #SmallInstances more relevant without relaying on real relays.
