Oh by the way, I posted a recently about problems with hearing and the lack of it and being able - or not, as the case be - to wear hearing aids
I'm delighted to report that I'm able to wear to my aids again and can hear reasonably well too - for a person. 🙂

Morning has arrived again,
but my only neighbors,
the birds,
slept in.

The gentle August breeze sounds like static.

Sun beams from the east illuminate the landscape,
oaks,
evergreens,
maples,
and birch tops sway.
Wispy thin white clouds decay,
as the azure and cyan ceiling,
makes way,
for a perfect summer day.

She lit the yellow hair of the dingy doll on fire,
it went up quickly,
black smoke rose up and dissipated.

While blue sparking eyes reflected the flickering light,
she danced rhythmically into the night,
holding plastic hands tight,
twirling and spinning with delight.

Cinderella,
Snow White,
visions of princes,
castles,
and fairy tale life,
shared with her only friend,
the hairless one,
dressed in a gown of white.

the poet

a lay-a-bout
laying down
motionlessly
mixing emotions
before laying-
away readymade
incremental feels
that waylay the way
nowhere
at all beyond
a stale mattress
and a bug-
stained ceiling.

And what’s to become
of the bully Prigozhin?
Expelled to Belarus
for sticking his nose in.

He exposed Putin’s flaws
so he’ll vanish from sight.
Maybe poison himself.
Or fall from a height.

In just a few hours
reality prevailed,
with a sub at the bottom
and a coup curtailed.

Here’s a plea to newsrooms
from a hardened news-goer,
keep the spectacular endings,
but please let us down slower.

Gramsci 1.92

things, he writes
short, abstract
longer capable
individualized
and specialized
Unbound phase
technical civilization
can carry his iron chains up to the heavens.

I am drunk
And laughing like a
at the sight of my own dirty feet.

There is comedy in me.
A laughter.
But what has made me laugh
at my privilege
in my cis het male white skin,
except what they expect?

I should lead,
bleed,
have a confidence
never taught to me?

Fuck this.
I am drunk
and my vision is blurred
but I can see
how patriarchy also hurts
cis white het male me.

Standing in a small town bakery
Leaning against you
Your hand on the small of my back

… I could get used to this.

As the day broke
a daughters’ role, done
her breath alone
carried on air.

Sunk to her knees
all the fight, wilted
her grievous wail
filled the room.

I started my climb
a ago
sprouting green
from a rotting brown carpet

You stop
look at my house
swim
in its petrichor
breathe
air free of filth filtered
and left on my leaves

Then you say
how beautiful nature is
like it’s a museum
to your wild past
that you can visit on a day trip
before caging yourself again

But please understand
that all life around you
is built upon death
and the beauty of it is
that it can discard things
which it no longer needs

It’s hard to think when my head is full
of turning dials and chains and cogs,
and disappearing spanners
getting chewed up
by the
mind’s
rusty
machinery

slowly
grinding

to

a

halt

before being spat suddenly out and
jolting me to senseless rattling action
as I become a straining engine again,
running on anxiety and embarrassment,
burning red
as broken brakes
as unseen stop signs.

How much the 1970s sucked, a true story.

pat on the head
curly top, he says
my new boss

and this was in the civil service in Australia. Never forgotten it. Like I was a pet dog.

We work hard
keeping a lid on things.

Things that only we know -
like the way we sang
„The Internationale“
to drown out our own thoughts
or the Cold War
your hands once waged
on my skin at night -
have become crumbled
rusting monuments
from our defeated empire:
no longer glorious
in the sad
stranger’s
we find ourselves in.
We march through numbered days
in silent awkwardness
until our feet
pace out in opposite ways
from each side of our fallen wall.
