Maybe it's time to admit to myself I'm probably in a midlife crisis.

I generally listening to almost no music released after 2000.. but lately I switched from my beloved #SmashingPumpkins to the old bands I listened when I was maybe 17-24yrs old. And many of them are still fabulous to me! I'm really enjoying.

And better: I discovered bands (like #BikiniKill) I didn't know before and would have _loved_ back in the days.

I guess that's better than buying a motorcycle or sports car now...?

So... some random thoughts about 'Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness'

- It was released in my final year of high school.

- I read about it in my Dad's TIME magazine and it sounded like the coolest thing ever (unlike reading one's parents TIME magazines)

- My dad thought the lyrics to Bullet With Butterfly Wings went "Despite underage, I'm still just ready to rage"

- I played it so often my flatmate destroyed the CD. (I'll never forgive you Kristie)

- I do like Siamese Dream and Adore, but those 3 albums are probably my limit with the pumpkins.

_ I probably listen to both discs, back-to-back, about once a year. And it's usually a good night (like tonight!)

#Listening to Siamese Dream, arguably the best album by The Smashing Pumpkins. Certainly my favourite. The opening track, Cherub Rock, combines wall-of-noise shoegazer guitars, driving drum rhythms, a contrast between ethereal vocals and rock belting, and a nuanced layering of musical elements, slowly building to a raging climax, and meditative code. It got me thinking that the Pumpkins might have a major inspiration for Weta when they wrote Calling On.

30 years ago, today, my favorite rock album of all time was released. The Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream came out on July 27, 1993.

This was a pivotal album for me as a kid. So many incredible songs, with top notch song writing and epic guitars. Favorite song: Soma

Corgan’s attempt to remake The Wall with ‘90s sensibilities worked pretty well, right down to the moments of flabby boredom that inflict the set between bangers like “Zero” and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.” To be so ambitiously epic in an era of ironic detachment took a certain bravery, and few alt-rockers of the era had the guts to include unabashed pop like “1979.”
