Did you present at the conference?
I didn't see you there, but I missed the first day, or maybe there was a clash.
I'd like to see your talk or poster in the recordings etc. if its there? Which session did you speak in? or what was your poster number?

Anyone interested in a #game of … whatever is on those tables in the lobby? #SMBE2023 (or in the #SMBEeverywhere venue?)
Nobody seemed very talkative in #GatherTown during the #conference but the #games might make a good conversation starter?
Preferred times
East Asia ≈ Late night
Europe + Africa ≈ Lunch Time
Americas ≈ Early Morning

At #SMBE2023 in #Ferrara ERGA coordination were thrilled to chat with so many attendees to provide context & explain the mission of coordinating the production of high-quality #genome 🧬 sequences that represent eukaryotic #biodiversity in #Europe 🐗🐞🦎🌿🍄🦆🌸🐰 https://www.erga-biodiversity.eu/

Grateful I could attend and share my work at #SMBE2023!! Many great talks and posters to learn from, a really inspiring experience for a young researcher such as myself.
Thanks to @hernanaburbano and @smlatorreo (and Aida Andrés!) for this opportunity!
Our Biology Dept opened a tenure-track faculty position in the field of #EvoDevo
Deadline: August 31, 2023. Starting date: March 1, 2024. Send a PDF including a letter of intent, a CV including names and contact details of 3 people, a 5-page description of avenues of teaching & research, and a 1 page explaination of the contribution to the field of their most relevant contributions, to Stephane Boudreau, Chair of the Department of Biology, Université Laval #smbe2023
It was lovely to catch up and discuss science with colleagues and friends at #SMBE2023 Already missing Ferrara!
Really great conference week in the beautiful city of Ferrara!! Thanks to all the organizers of #SMBE2023 !! 😊👏🎉

The conclusions of Michael Lynch's amazing plenary talk
"what occurs in evolution is directed by what natural selection cannot do"

I've think worked out the confusion, the partly overlapping hashtags #BOSC2023 #ISMBECCB2023 made me think that it was a satellite meeting for #SMBE2023
But it's actually completely separate?
or are #BOSC2023 and #ISMBECCB2023 also separate to each other?
some of it was recoded? how long is that available for?
is recording access registered only?

now I need to work out what I'm registered for … I might have registered for clashing things because I neglected to put #smbe2023 in my calendar…

Thanks to @officialSMBE for making space for climate activism and to @SanjaHakala, @gaston and @AudreyBras for facilitating an engaging workshop yesterday.
It was great to be able to chat openly about #ClimateBreakdown and #DirectAction together with a room full of evolutionary biologists, geneticists and ecologists yesterday.
See you on the streets!

We topped out at over 1000 unique visitors on our metaverse/ virtual #smbe2023 last night: hooray!

F Delsuc showing very complete picture of convergence: anatomy, genome/transcriptome, and microbiome #SMBE2023
F Delsuc: ancestral mammal had many chitinases, consistent with fossil evidence for insectivorous diet, followed by many losses in most mammalian lineages. Anteater has several still expressed digestive system, in pangolin surprisingly most are lost or pseudogenes, with only CHIA5 expressed in digestive system, maybe because of common ancestry with carnivores. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.11.29.518312v2.abstract #SMBE2023
Frédéric Delsuc: 5 convergent evolutions of ant (or termite) eating among mammals, including one hyena. Focus of his study is on anteaters and pangolins (a bit disappointed not to hear about aardwolf, the termite eating hyena). #SMBE2023
I would like to see data on the percentage of pictures of slides taken at #smbe2023 that are actually looked at after.
Really great talk by Emily Lau on the convergence of bioluminescence, beautiful research and slides
#smbe2023
E Lau shows very nicely how bioluminescence in ostracods, fireflies and sea pansies can use very different structures yet convergently recruited homologous enzymes. The number of functional genes varies according to lineage-specific duplications. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.04.12.536614v1.abstract #SMBE2023 #ConvergentEvolution #paralog #bioluminescence
