another quick #Emu #SMDI update, but this time from the Apple Silicon world: bunch of tweaking shows a 10-core M1 MBP is more than capable of emulating an x86 under #qemu (inside https://mac.getutm.app) fast & well enough to communicate bi-directionally with the sampler on WinXP, as well as chopping the audio - although latency is ~500ms đ¶ and passing through a class-compliant audio device seems to turn the VM into a đą but still, this is quite game-changing: ARM upgrade path! đ„ïž
naturally i spent several hours trying to get XP running natively on an old MacBook Air. # BootCampâs not an option not only because the only version of macOS in which it supports XP (for U2SCX driver) is Leopard, and I doubt v much thatâll run on a 2012 MBA, but also âcos (TIL đ©) XP/installer just wonât boot from UEFI. sigh. sooooo⊠only certain way to get #SMDI working with the #E4XT is old PC hardware with native XP. needs to be small and unobtrusive. letâs check the âBay? result: oooh!
