From the Birmingham and West Midlands A to Z ... rather an old copy. Engine St, just to the left of the 1, where gtgrandad was born in the 1850s.
You can see 4 canals in parallel just north of Engine St. The #SmethwickEngine was on the left side of Bridge St beside the southernmost of the 4 canals. This canal is the Engine Arm.
The next canal up is #Telford 's new main line of the #BCN and the two others formed the lock flight to the #Wolverhampton level.

Somewhere in this picture is where my great grandfather was born in the early 1850s. Walk to the other end of the street & look left and you see about 100 yards away the original site of the #SmethwickEngine by Boulton and Watt. Still in steam but in #Brum in the #Thinktank.
