So rather than listen to you all night, with your every minute chirps, off to the store I went. And after sone ladder fumbling and swearing you are silent again for a while more.

Because someone on the #birdsite was fearmongering about "rAdiOaCtiVe industrial smoke detectors" I made this video. Older #smokedetectors use ²⁴¹Am as an ionization source. The weak, secundary 59 keV gamma rays (americium is mostly an alpha source) are able to escape the housing. They are heavily attenuated and don't pose any danger. #radioactivity #physics
