I had to fix several mistakes to get it XHTML strict first (it was supposed to be, but I broke things). Then it was just removing inline styles (which were mostly bad hacks anyway)

So, I've made a Gemini-server in Crystal, mostly as a "learning Crystal" project.

One reason was because Gemini is simple enough to just "throw together", thus fitting as an educational project.

And thewn together it was! :blobcatcool: After that I began to stress-test and optimize, this was where I learned how to handle multiple clients and avoid blocking (see my earlier post).

I did not miss doomscrolling, hate speech, uspol handwringing, negativity, scolding, passive aggressive petition for censoring, Vietnamese online casinos.

I am humbled by one person emailing me to see if I was okay.

The gist was that gopher has much less active users than gemini, but there are about 5 million easy-to-find currently online gopher items (if you lost something a few decades ago, it's probably in the gopher). Gemini executed more than two qualitatively different argue-about-able improvements to gopher which make it attractive. Saying #smolnet is #smol isn't an insult.
