He used computers since the '80s, so he already had a numeric legacy, but scattered on many computers and storages, so the first thing I did was to buy a Synology DS420+ #NAS to gather everything in one place. I like it a lot, my only regret may be to have bought (not certified) #WesternDigital Red 4TB disks that use, unknowingly, #SMR technology. Not a big deal so far in practice though, even for Raid rebuilding (fingers crossed).

@jmtixhon I would agree that if the nuclear industry could consume its waste economically it would be a big boost. In Canada we have Moltex claiming to have a molten salt technology to do that. My worry is that new nuclear technologies development timeline is too long to effectively address what is increasingly looking like a climate tantrum from Mother Nature.

Mais il y a comme un air de vent nouveau sur la génération IV en #France.

Il y a une semaine à Caen deux entreprises développant des petits réacteurs nucléaires innovants de quatrième génération, #Naarea et #Newcleo, ont été sélectionnées pour recevoir un soutien financier de l’état à hauteur de 25 millions d’euros, alors que l’instruction de nombreux autres dossiers se poursuit (pour une enveloppe totale de 500 millions d’euros).

Naarea travaille sur un petit réacteur à sels fondus de 40 MW, et Newcleo sur un démonstrateur de réacteur refroidi au plomb de 30 MW en France et une tête de série de 200 MW en #Angleterre.

Les deux concepts sont des réacteurs à neutrons rapides, pouvant fonctionner avec du combustible classique mais aussi avec l'uranium appauvri non encore valorisé et les déchets des réacteurs actuels. Newcleo prévoit d'ailleurs de fabriquer son combustible MOX.

Alvin Weinberg pioneered this idea for nuclear power in 1960s. A pilot #MoltenSaltReactor was built and operated at Oak Ridge Lab for a number of years but never ran on Thorium. Several #SMR designs are derivatives from that idea including Canada’s Terrestrial Energy. Hopefully in the west we come up with a competitive design before China dominates

Well, it is, until it isn't - and then things break HORRIBLY.

At least #Seagate publishes info on which recording technology their respective model drives use, so you are able to make an informed decision.
