I have a #SMTP server running on #Linux #Debian at work. It's only working as a send-only SMTP relay. I set up everything and I'm able to send a mail from the server itself which uses postfix to pipe the mail trough Sendgrid as the SMTP service provider and finally sends the mail.

However regardless of which device inside the same network I use to send a mail using the SMTP relay it fails and debugging it shows that SMTP Relay authentication failed.

Every local device should be able to send 🤔

Thunderbird-Fehlermeldung beim E-Mailversand nach Umstellung auf OAuth2. Abruf per IMAP klappt problemlos. Hatte schon mal jemand das Problem?

Vor Umstellung auf OAuth2 war es kein Problem.

How do I configure #sSMTP to change both, the FROM and the TO field?
mailer.conf refers to ssmtp for #sendmail, and is used by #CRON. Unfortunately, from- and to-fields in those mails only contain the local username and can not be delivered by the external mail server. Using mail(1) from the CLI does respect all the aliases from mail.rc and mails get delivered.

The check for parity is essential, running the data back into a system prompt with pass/fail parameters according to the source and ical formatting standards. If it fails the email resets and I am informed of what specifically failed.

Interesting how many #SMTP #spammers have seemingly valid reverse DNS records these days, and lack matching forward confirmed records instead. I remember times when it was the other way around. #MailServer

I found that our #makerspace's welcome email to new members wasn't being delivered to #Gmail accounts. After a lot of trial and error I worked out it was because of the join.slack.com link. I set up a redirect and the emails get through now.

Note the emails weren't going to the spam folder they were just completely vanishing after successful delivery to Gmail's #SMTP server.

#DKIM, #SPF and #DMARC all pass.

I'm sure it's a coincidence that #Google sees #Slack as competition.

Every time, you first have to bang on the wall before you realize that hosts block #smtp by default. But the time is already spent.

For a business, I've been using a paid gmail account on the entities domain. It looks like as it now sends over 1200 emails a day with PDF's (fax images) and .wav files (voicemail), gmail keeps flagging it as a spammer. It is email the recipients want. Is there a level of gmail that works better for this (I am not admin of...), do we find a different provider, or is it time to do dedicated mail server again (with SPF's, DKIM, etc..). Any advice? #email #smtp #gmail

@briankrebs RFC 1035, section 3.1 says the domain part is completely case insenensitive. However the user name is not part of that spec afaict. But I was under hte impresison that in widespread practice, the user part of the email addy is not case dependent. I certainly mix up cases with gmail and other places. If a mailing list software is not honoring that, I'd have issues with that list software.

@davidgerard You forgot that it's perfectly viable to use #SMTP relays and you can even just configure things so that exclusively obnoxious servers like GAFAM(Y) get connections using that while you use your normal connection for everyone else.

Why is it so hard to setup an account for SMTP?? I just want to be able to send emails to users on my nextcloud instance.

Does anyone have a straightforward and reliable (free) email provider that provides SMTP support?
