@DragonFlyEye Maybe my county/area is weird? (Sacramento, California) -- Garbage et al is picked up by the County. Electric service is by publicly-owned #SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District). Natural gas is the only privately owned utility on that list. (And I am *really* looking forward to converting to all-electric, but it's going to take a few years, $$$)
344k customers without power in the #sacramento area, per #SMUD.
The #wind gusts are just pounding as of the past hour.
Expected to go on like this for another hour our two: on the order of 70MPH #gusts per NWS. #cawx

Yikes, more than 340,000 #SMUD customers without power right now. Winds are terrifying.
Night #4 with no power, and I still think #SMUD is great and I sure know it's a minor inconvenience in the big scheme of things, but feeling cold and annoyed nonetheless.
My daughter and family lost power on the 31st. SMUD projects the problem will be fixed by the 6th. SMUD will pay for a hotel, $150 a night, AND reimburse for any food in the fridge that goes bad. Yay for SMUD!

@spidaman public utilities should never be run as for profit companies. It’s just insane. It’s like healthcare. There are some things that people simply need and we shouldn’t be gouged for. So grateful we are in a #SMUD location. Only have to deal with PG&E for our gas for our stove and our hot water heater.
