@fossheim My pick of the bunch would be #Flickr. It's been running for decades, owned by a company who sell+print photos #SmugMug and is made for photographers.

The metadata they show on the page of each photo speaks volumes (screenshot attached) and they'll even host the photos 4k (or maybe even higher resolution)

PixelFed re-renders all your photos to be smaller than this and definitely isn't made for photographers.

imgup kept getting slower and slower, then I realized “oh, it’s returning the whole upload album” and fixed that. I haven’t built a thing I use and enjoy every day in a long time. I use imgup pretty much every day. It makes photo posting much easier.

Cleaning up my camera roll on my phone is a never ending battle. Periodically I just give up and stuff the pictures into my digital junk drawer on #smugmug. I want to get my photo taking mojo back so this needs to be a project.

I set up a website to share my love of photography, technology, social media and more. I considered #Wix, #SmugMug and #Squarespace. I chose Wix because it had better social previews, better display options and a strong blogging platform. Depending on your goals, you might choose differently.

Four days later and it’s coming together well. Old Mac set up with two external drives, one backing up via ChronoSync to the second. All my backed-up photos are now sitting on the external drives, accessible via my home network. In my move away from Apple Photos I’ve opted for #smugmug. The benefit of my new setup - I download Apple photos, using my iPad, onto a folder on the Mac, which is monitored by the SmugMug uploader. I leave the Mac doing its thing in the background. #photography

I'm glad that #Flickr will be salvaged by #SmugMug even if I'm not planning to transition over.

I've had a pro account for years, then my use of it declined to the point of switching to the free tier. Still, I'm all for a service paid for with cash by its users instead by advertising.
