Looked at the
AAVSO light curve for the first time in a while today since it’s been cloudy here lately. Looks like the linear decrease phase ended about two weeks ago after ~70 days since maximum light. Starting to plateau now at ~82 days, expected for a type IIL event

Hers is some data on the gradual change in brightness of a few past supernovae.

Luminosity of a Type II SN rises for 1-3 weeks and then declines over months.
Type II-L SNe have a steady decline rate, while Type II-P supernova exhibit an intermediate plateau period with a reduced decline rate.
The average decay rate of 0.008 mag per day is much lower than that of Type Ia SNe.

18 days after it exploded, supernova SN2023ixf in the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) seems to be dimming a bit, as all type II SNe do, although the dimming is gradual and takes place over a period of several months.

Clear skies at last, after 3 months of clouds… This is the pinwheel galaxy (M101) with the supernova SN2023ixf (marked with small red lines) that has appeared on May 19. This picture was taken during 2 consecutive nights (May 27 and 28) with a small refractor (400mm focal length). Total integration time was 4h50. Image processed with Pixinsight.

Confirmed that I really saw the supernova in the Pinwheel Galaxy M101 with 8” Instead of SkySafari, this time I used a 2 min unstretched image from CloudyNights. Marked all relevant star patterns around the galaxy, and confirmed these patterns in the eyepiece. From the triangle of 10th mag stars towards the galaxy, found two stars, 12th mag and 11th mag. They form a nice triangle with the supernova. Its brightness is comparable to the 11th mag star!

In der vergangenen Nacht habe ich erneut eine Aufnahme der Feuerrad-Galaxie gemacht, da ich feststellen wollte, ob man im Vergleich zu meiner Aufnahme von vor 7 Tagen vielleicht eine Veränderung der sehen kann. Ergebnis: Der Unterschied ist gewaltig! Die Supernova ist wesentlich heller/größer geworden.
Dieses Video zeigt das Bild vom 27. Mai (heute), wobei die Supernova abwechselnd mit dem Bild vom 20. Mai überlagert wird.

Crazy to think this event actually happend some 21 million years ago, but we can still observe it changing brightness in mere days.

Anfängerglück! 😊 In der Nacht vom 19. auf 20. Mai habe ich eine Aufnahme der Feuerrad-Galaxie gemacht. Und heute stelle ich sehr erfreut fest, dass darauf als kleiner Punkt auch die zu sehen ist, die erst am 19. Mai entdeckt wurde und über die derzeit in der Presse berichtet wird. Ich habe die Supernova mit einem kleinen Pfeil in der Bildmitte markiert.
