canonical-livepatch deinstalliert … und #snapd deaktiviert. schon läuft der Server wieder schön schnell und ohne 2-5 Minuten Hänger. #ubuntu #nextcloud
It's not often that I do, but I've just sent a patch for snapd: https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/12899
Any kernel developers reading this wanna go and fix 9p to properly escape spaces in superblock options?
@danielfgom @lproven Lennard at #Microsoft ... Soon PID 1 of #Windows will be #systemd ... So let us install #snapd ... OK, lots more of apps ...I CANNOT PRINT!!! ... Let's install the #CUPS #Snap ... And Windows gets just anothjer (#immutable ?) distro ...
#microsoft #windows #systemd #snapd #cups #snap #immutable
@pieq @omgubuntu I started developing the #CUPS #Snap already end-2017 and there they told me at #Canonical that they want to do an all-Snap distro (and they had it already for server and IoT by means of #UbuntuCore). During the time I have refined the CUPS Snap and worked with the #snapd team on needed features in snapd, especially the "cups" interface for Snaps of applications which print, so that they can print but not mess with the CUPS configuration.

More learnings:
- #lutris rules
- #snapd is annoying
- you can apt install from `.deb` files 🤯
I spent the last hour and a half writing a bash script to automate some of this setup for next time.
( It will be available at https://github.com/miclgael/setup-linux )

::: Ubuntu calls to test Steam :ubuntu: 🎮 👾
Here's how to get involved:
1. Grab the candidate Steam from Snap Store:
sudo snap install --candidate steam
2. Launch Steam & game on!
Report yer results like so:
sudo snap connect steam:hardware-observe
sudo snap connect steam:system-observe
steam.report “game name here”
Ubuntu wants to up its gaming capability - this benefits Linux in general - gaming is an important gateway to Linux :thinkergunsunglasses:

Finally decided to dump #GNOME 3 in favor of #Cinnamon, because I was sick of gnome-shell using up so much CPU. Now Firefox is using all my CPU as it should be. I was already using #Nemo as my file manager since #Nautilus becomes unusably slow on large directories.
I first just tried installing task-cinnamon-desktop, but that wasn't enough (and pulled in #snapd which I then removed). A quick web search told me I should switch my display manager to #lightdm, which is what I'd been using on Arch. But that defaulted to using unity-greeter which for some reason couldn't start a Cinnamon session. So I installed slick-greeter and removed unity-greeter, and that works fine.
The best thing aside from getting back all that CPU so that Firefox can use it is getting back some screen real estate since Cinnnamon just uses a bar along the bottom and doesn't have a dock.

@tuxedocomputers
Thanks for this nice and well working :tux: OS :mastolove:
Due to missing #snapd support but usage of #flatpack, the better option according to the *buntu family 🐧
@scruss No joke this is like the 6th toot on the #Linux #hashtag I've seen about #snapd causing issues on #Ubuntu. The reason I ditched #Ubuntu in 2016 for #LinuxMint was unethical privacy issues on part of #Canonical. #Linuxmint automatically disables #snapd, so I recommend that distro.

Well done, #Ubuntu - with Ubuntu Pro, you've finally achieved your walled garden. Delightful move that you've walled in some key packages (such as ImageMagick) that many people rely on but probably don't even know they are there. Force-installing snapd - a virus I've spent many hours trying to extirpate - is the real bubblegum in the hairdo.

@birnim As for OS of choice, I played with #IBM OS/2 Warp a long time ago, #DOS 6.22, #Windows 3.11, then switched to #LinuxMandrake 7.2.2 and stayed on #Linux. #Debian was an easy choice afterwards. I tried #Ubuntu for a few years, but after #snapd came along, a quickly backed out to #Debian.

Just jumping on to say how brilliant the Snapd video downloader is. How stupid I've been all these years without it. U can download the entirety of Y*ut*be if you want.
