Prices on #metlink go up on 1 Sept, but you can still save by buying a #snapper pass.

My daily train fare is going up from $2.76 each way (5 zones) to $5.52.
A 30 day pass is increasing from to $82.80 to $165.60(!)

Assuming I travel in to the office 3 days per week / 12 times in Sept, that’s $132.48 at the new fare rate (paying per trip). A 30 day pass, bought and activated before 1 Sept will save me $49.68. Not bad.

Installing #GarudaLinux for its preconfigured #linux #kernel, chiefly to avoid the hassle of setting up #udevrules with #OpenRGB. A nice bonus is the #zenkernel for additional performance, and the easy GUIs for a straightforward OS. #snapper utilizing the powerful #btrfs is a nice feature too. Overall it's a great OS and will keep me around for a while, until I'm inflicted with the inevitable urge to #distrohop again.

@Natanox #Btrfs and #snapper is a good solution. The filesystem can handle #ssd devices and over snapper and there snapshots exists a nice backup contruct.
For old and buggy HDD devices, is it possible to say Btrfs, that use DATA Profile dub for more data saving.

Würde ich auch so bestätigen. #openSUSE #Tumbleweed läuft rund durch konsequente Nutzung von #openQA und bietet obendrein mit #btrfs und #snapper einfache rollbacks falls doch mal was schiefgeht. Habe das bisher nur einmal nutzen müssen, was auf jeden Fall auch für Stabilität spricht. Nutze TW auf zwei Systemen im Alltag für Arbeit, Surfen, Spielen und bin sehr zufrieden. :)

I’ve been trying out using #Snapper on the trains this week and it is very slow isn’t it. I miss the efficiency of the UK’s Oyster card. Here’s hoping there are plans for improving the speed, because it sucks if you’re pushing it close to your train leaving and there’s a bunch of people wanting to tap on at the same time. #trainsNZ

@jeang3nie That has happened to me on #openSUSE Tumbleweed a few times over the years and it is a pain. But the great thing about openSUSE is that it has #Snapper snapshots enabled by default, so if an upgrade goes wrong you can just boot from the previous snapshot and everything will be working again. Then wait for the next batch of updates to be released (which usually fixes whatever problem was revealed by the first upgrade) and go again.

Relocated this little fella to a safer spot off the highway. If you've never handled them before, this is an inappropriate size to learn with. They are heavy, strong & might bite & hold your leg if you lower it close to your body.

Use a box or shovel to help them cross..

My rough estimate is that no more than 10% of passengers on the Kapiti line are using Snapper cards to pay their fare. Most of those who aren’t seem to be using the popular monthly pass, which they would have bought in October to use in November. So, it’s too early to judge the success of Snapper yet.

It’s going to be a very different story on 1 December. I’m sure there will be big queues at the machines on the platforms to tag on and off.
