#Steel

Resting her hand on my shoulder.
Dad wouldn’t want you to cry.
I steeled my strength to support her.
As my sight slowly turned fish-eyed.

We stood on display,
as our world crumbled down
A parade of sad faces,
a hushed mumbling of sound.

The weight on my shoulder,
felt too heavy to bear.
But steel never falters.
She’d feel I was there.

I sniffled just once
one hand to my face.
As it burned in my memory
that darkest of place.

Hand to his chest,
his look gripped my eyes.
So much he wanted to say.

Then to my terror,
a tear filled with why.
As his focus faded away.

There in goodbye
I stood steel at her side.
Dad wouldn’t want me to cry.

Our beautiful baby.

It was not an easy journey to get you here but as we look down with wonderment at your beautiful face, your perfect eyes and your adorable fingers and toes, it was all worthwhile.

We will protect you and shelter you from harm.

We will fret as you #sniffle and your little nose twitches. A lifetime of worry and joy in equal measure awaits us. You are, by far the most amazing thing that we have ever created.

We will love and adore you, our precious little one.

Now and forever.
