They don't "take" content from news #producers. They show an #extract - a #snippet, maybe just a #headline - with a #link back to the original news site for people to follow. This is classic fair use under #copyright; FB etc don't get a ton of value out of it. The news sites get #traffic - lots of it - to try to monetize.

If FB etc were copying articles wholesale, *that* could kill the news sites - but it would also be a blatant violation of copyright. It isn't happening.

This is a first snippet from our upcoming new piece and video “The Whistler”.

It contains extremely stretched human whistling, wind chimes, stretched and non-stretched low-register vocals, and a binaural beat of 5 Hz (433 & 438 Hz).

When he answered, my breath was driven out of my body. Truly, how could I have known? But I understand now what Fenton meant when he said that the Emorians don't take blood vows. After all, a life-binding vow need not be exchanged through blood. It could just as easily be exchanged through wine – and could be just as binding.

Search/social media companies show a #snippet of the #article, and #link back to the original #site to read the full #article. That's fine, and shouldn't need #payment.

But if they're #copying more of the original article than is necessary for that purpose, eliminating those visits to the original site and benefiting #commercially, they're #violating the site's #copyright, and should pay #damages and #penalties for that.

I’m trying to be a little more purposeful with my [original] #writing, a little more goal-oriented and actionable. One thing I’m trying to do is share #snippets here and there. Let myself feel vulnerable in that way, in the hopes of finding like-minded people and build something online.

So, with that in mind, I’ve been working on little #flashfiction pieces occasionally; stuff that strays from my usual style, and maybe a #genre I don’t usually write. I view it kind of like trying on clothes in a changing room. “Does this work? Is this something I can take home with me?”

Today’s attempt is #horror, and this is a #snippet of that flash #fiction piece I’m toying with (and besides a quick check over for big grammar errors, it’s unedited). Let me know what you think (constructively!), if you like.
