The world is not so big and the community is small. Sometimes you cross paths with someone for a few minutes - they answer a question, merge a patch you wrote and disappear into the background again. Later when you return, they are not there and you wonder what became of them. My interactions with Ilya Etingof (https://github.com/etingof) was just that.
