282 followers · 746 posts · Server zeroes.caWhat is the most unexpected or interesting animal you have seen at your house? Here in the #PNW I have seen rabbits, salamanders, eagles, hawks, coyotes, raccoons, lizards, snakes, squirrels around my house… but the most surprising was a bobcat!
I also saw a black bear while driving ~5 minutes from my house. I slowed down because I thought it was a lost dog walking in the road! Nope! It was a black bear!

Out birding last week for a day. Gulls are underappreciated birds. If you take time to watch them, they are amazing, agile, and intelligent. Also, they pose challenges to identification. I went out last Tuesday specifically for birding. It was a trifecta of three of my favorite local birding hotspots, all within a 10 minute drive from home base. Yesterday wife and I walked around the Everett waterfront and looped back through Everett's Northwest Neighborhood of beautiful old homes. View of the Snohomish River from Legion Park-Preston Point. There, the mouth of the Snohomish River and the many pilings is one of the largest colonies of salt-water nesting ospreys along the West Coast. The entire process was a total nightmare! The county knocked it down Spring 2022 but still no roundabout. Still doesn’t feel real!

Was out for 15 minutes and watched 2 moderate size branches come down in the parking lot. Heard a lot more nearby that I couldn't see.
