Today, I wrote 3k words. Most of them were somewhat gut wrenching, which I'm hoping translates to good. Then I sat in a lake with some friends until I turned into a prune. And THEN I rearranged my guestroom to accommodate the secretary I bought off my neighbor on the spur of the moment. (Note: I HAVE always wanted to own one. And I am really excited my guests will have a private workspace.)

I'm tired.

The local avalanche forecasts are, for reasons I'm unclear on, done for the season. But I've heard two avalanches go off in the last hour. So, be careful touring in the #Cascades, folks.

Today's ski adventures were made a little weird by the way the weather kept shifting from near white out snow to full sun and back.

Highlight: when I told someone on the lift that I live here, he said, "Like all the time? People are allowed to do that?" Um... Yeah. I own my house. I get to stay here. The fact that most of the homes on my street AREN'T occupied weeklong and year round is unrelated sadness.

This #silentSunday, there were no cool crops yet. I did see a busy gun range by #Ritzville. A dumb f-Biden flag & a guarded power sub station east of Moses Lake.
Lastly, I saw a small Canadian military convoy (1st for me in #US) going over #SnoqualmiePass .

It's a cozy snow day up on my mountain. The whole family is off Mondays and we celebrated by playing Flamecraft, an adorable boardgame about supporting small businesses run by dragons.

I have a weather app that lets me switch between prediction sources. Last night, there was disagreement over whether my location would receive snow all day or rain until 4, then snow.

Half the sources say it's raining here right now. It's not. It's snowing.

The one snow-all-day prediction source (AccuWeather) estimates we'll get ~18 inches. So be carefully if you're heading up #SnoqualmiePass today, #Seattle!

Cross-country skiing out of Cabin Creek Sno-Park on Wednesday. Beautiful day, mostly sunny while west of the crest was shrouded in clouds. Mountain Update from #SnoqualmiePass... I suspect it's a good day for skiing, although I haven't been out because I am now sick. Someone gave me a virus for my birthday, which was not a gift I'd asked for. I'd asked for the snowblower that still hasn't been delivered.

Temps are hovering around freezing and it's snowing lightly. There are more people skiing Summit East than there have been, but the lower lot is only about a third full.

Mountain Morning Update: It's WET up here! Seriously. I'm watching the snow crew clear the lot across from my house and they're creating WAVES.

And it's raining steadily.

I90 looks good.

Also, it's my birthday. I was at one point very excited at the idea of skiing today. It's opening day at Hyak (Summit East)! In addition to being the closest area to me, it's also my favorite. But... I'm now thinking I can wait to ski.

Update from #SnoqualmiePass... I90 is open with chains required other than AWD. From the cameras, there are stretches where chains look like they'd be silly and sections where the road is just NASTY.

Speaking of nasty roads, the county never got my road plowed yesterday. I have a Subie Crosstrek with Scandinavian snow tires and still don't feel like I can drive away from home right now without chains. Driveway would require significant digging anyway as the wind filled it up with snow again.

The Summit just announced they'll be closed tomorrow.

This will be the first Xmas my ski instructor partner J won't be working since... I don't even know. The offspring was YOUNG. So like 2008ish?

This storm is no joke, y'all. Over on Twitter, #WSDOT posted a photo of I90 by me and it was solid ice. Like you could probably play hockey on it. It wasn't this bad here when Seattle was covered in ice, but freezing rain will do that.

From the "You know it's bad when..." Files, #WSDOT has officially told the Summit that they need to send everyone home NOW. So, yeah, the weather is officially government agencies telling ski areas to close bad.

I'm unclear if people are being allowed down from #SnoqualmiePass still. Since the closure is for weather and avalanche danger, there's a decent chance they're not and I'm about to have a large number of unexpected Christmas guests.

In other news, I've worked on my driveway. I need a serious snow blower. Or for another person to be able to help. But B can't find her snow pants and J is at work. (Although I don't know what he's doing there as all lessons were cancelled for the day. Catching up on stuff he's been too busy for I guess.)
