Oh. And if my current research is any indication such a storm may well destroy the Washington Monument. As in crack and crumble into pieces onto the snowdrifts, that kind of destroyed.

The more I think about and worldbuild my Great Christmas Blizzard for a story, the less it's seeming like Superstorm Sandy Deluxe and the more it's coming out like The Day After Tomorrow Lite. The numbers I'm working with suggest snowdrifts overtopping the Capitol Dome. 😮

The heaviest snowfall I've ever seen, one December night a few years ago. The wet stuff coating every branch, every flake tumbling down under those lights...it was like being ensconced in a snow globe. ❄️😍 Consider it a preview of winter while it's still warm and bright.

I spy with my little eye, #snow falling late Monday morning at the UAF Toolik Lake Research station (elevation 2450 ft, 750 m MSL) on the north side of the Brooks Range crest, off of mile 281 Dalton Highway. 32F (0C) and west wind 5 mph.
