My numero uno unpopular geology opinion: snowball earth is a huge crock of sh*t.

I've been in the field with snowball true believers, and every sedimentary structure is "proof of glaciation" and every pebble in a sandstone that looks out of place is "obviously till or a drop stone." One guy even said something to the effect of- "Life likely evolved on earth 3-4 billion years ago, and then was completely killed off by snowball earth 700 million years ago, and life had to start again from scratch." He said this without a shred of evidence and with a completely straight face.

Snowball earth is a catchall that lazy geologists use to hand wave and explain away complex sedimentology that they don't want to think about. Honestly, it's total f*cking BS. Let's call it what it is- snow job earth.
