I think it's been mentioned before but I just want to make sure that everyone here knows that we are having THREE #SocialCG #Swicg #ActivityPub sessions at #TPAC next week.
TPAC is a hybrid working event for the W3C. Some of us will be in person in Seville. If you're not, you can call in and participate remotely.
Details here!

There's an ongoing debate about this. #JSONLD and its elusive benefits for the #ActivityPub protocol.
But moreover there's a whole range of issues with AS/AP that were never tackled well, while projects delivered solutions in ways that ever increased tech debt.
#SocialHub, #SocialCG and @fedidevs are where improvements are discussed. And the #FEP:

On matrix talk is now about a "minimum AP" and more clarity in the specs..

@ophiocephalic While #Meta is certainly trying to get their foot into every door they can, Ben Savage of #Meta has become a member of the "Social Web Incubator Community Group" (#SocialCG / #SWICG). Anybody can join, see https://swicg.io/
The group that actually worked on standards was the #W3C "Social Web Working Group" (#SocialWG, closed in 2018). That being said, the "incubator" is influential, for sure.

> If the people responsible for the standard are willing to go into such discussions instead of just demanding that the standard is the only thing that counts, things get better!
Here's a flaw. There's no one in charge. We have a grassroots movement. Now.. #SocialCG might be revived.. there's activity in that direction. But that needs to happen first, and volunteers found to do the chores, put in time and energy.
@chrismessina Well, actually... it's the Social Web Community Group or #SocialCG.
Corporate takeover news..
In the latest move #Meta has joined the #W3C #SocialCG - the community group that created the #ActivityPub Recommendation - in the form of their employee Ben Savage, who is already involved in another community group, together with #Mozilla

#ActivityPub implementers and #SocialCG folks: the AP spec talks about using the `Add` and `Remove` activities for writing to local collections. I find it unusual; I think it's the only example of a remote user being able to write to local data. Are there any implementations that actually do this?
@Valon_Blue the majority of related conversations happen via activitypub.rocks site; there is also #fedidevs group and fedidevs.org working to do some practical documentation on interop etc. As others have noted, the #SocialCG is one of the places to participate via w3c as well.
No, this isn't anywhere on the planning just yet. But last couple of months activity on the W3C #SocialCG mailing lists has picked up and a meetup was held once again. All in all there is all kinds of discussion of things that *might* be in a vNext of #ActivityPub but no clarity on specifics.
The next SocialCG meetup is in July, I think.
I'd like to use the opportunity to say thank you to @datatitian for his work in Social CG!
Will Murphy created the Metaverse for the Fediverse in the form of https://web.immers.space …
The #SocialCG did also meet within immers and at the rC3 we had a community room with Christine Lemmer-Webber and others there.
I think what the immers people have done for fedi is really magic.
What we really need in the #SocialWeb, as the next iterative progression of #ActivityPub and its implementations like #Mastodon etc. IMHO. https://solidproject.org to store all posts and pictures etc *per user*, not per instance or account. This would radically reduce the scope of an implementation and allow for frictionless migration between instances. This does NOT necessarily need any change to the standard. It's an implementation detail, AFAICS. #SocialCG

Today's question for a resilient #Fediverse is whether various different initiatives are willing to collaborate and cross-pollinate, while keeping their independence.
There's great opportunity to increase the cohesion of the #GrassrootsFedi #ActivityPub developer community and creating strong joins:
1. @w3c #SocialCG working on #OpenStandards improvements
2. @fedidevs documenting existing fedi
4. #SocialHub as forum
