There is a disturbing trend in the USA right now.

Child labor laws being lifted at least to a degree.

Women's rights being eroded.

Social networks being eroded.

National parks & other beneficial programs being defunded.

Big Oil, Pharma, etc. getting more freedom.

Can we say industrial revolution part 2? Where workers have zero rights and are perpetually impoverished?

The thoughts would came,
easily and with despair
for freedom was a word
that most of the world abused.

Free like a bird in a cage,
that was the overall feeling
these days.
It was like that for most of my life.

My sight was blinded
by all the lies
of how world needs to be,
and how I need to think.

We weren't taught to question,
but to go with the flow.
No one taught us how to feel
or dell with the world,
but to blindly follow the rules.

Freedom is the state of mind
for everywhere I look
we are still in chains.
Why?

Freedom
comes
with
responsibility.

Most people choose slavery
over freedom every day
for they want to blame
for this, that, and the other
everyone else.

They know their rights
but refuse to take responsibility.

Freedom is a choice
that comes with a price.
Everything in life is about
the give and take balance.

But the society is teaching us
only to take,
because giving is for the weak.
Parents are teaching their children
that nothing is their fault,
it's the teachers who are unfair
for giving them bad grades.

Until we start taking responsibility
for everything we say and do
we are slaves to the society
that's making us ignorant
towards the universe.

More so before then now I used to discuss ways of public life and politics with my husband. It was always a discussion of cause and consequences which would lead to general disappointment in people being so easily manipulated into thinking what suited the interests of the ones in power or the ones who were striving for power.
This great piece by a dear friend Jon Scott reminded me of those nights we would have over the glasses of milk and wine.

We watched “The Forever Purge” a few days ago and I felt like it was the weakest in the series so far. The acting was good. The sets and costumes were amazing.

The social commentary was just too heavy-handed and clumsy. At some points, I expected the character to turn and look full into the camera and all of the action to stop for a “So kids…” monologue.

I enjoy #socialcommentary in #movies, but make it a part of the movie itself instead of being explicitly stated.
