I settled on the acronym BIOS to suggest the vital elements of life in society, a life in association with others, and not just any association but one whose flickers of life are sustained for more than a few vicissitudes of history. Sustainability in that life requires democracy, a society based on a distinctive form of social compact.

Would someone with more #ethics/ #sociology background please do some thinking and writing about #driving as having a #socialcontract? More and more I see people disregarding even bigger things like traffic lights. Drivers who make sudden u-turns/lane changes rather than drive a block to turn around. Etc etc. I don't think it's distraction anymore.

I can see this in the bigger picture of our US culture but it creates such immediate and continual danger.

Also #Seasteading as currently implemented is either a shitty version of #Waterworld-esque #Solitary minus a #Trimaran or some #AnCap grift to dodge #Taxes.

That's why people like #PeterThiel love the idea, because it's a "#GatedCommunity" aka. #Ghetto for #rich #white #wankers!

These #Billonaires see it as their god-given right to #plunder and #pilfer the #world and not be bound by #Governments or any #SocialContract|s whatsoever.

The expression, "Make your money make money" always rubbed me the wrong way, until I read a comment on a reddit post that said, "Investors aren't thinking about what they can produce to acquire wealth. They are thinking about what they can buy to acquire wealth."

If your entire income is because your money is making you more money, then you have STOPPED being a productive/useful member of society, yes?

IMHO, what made #Twitter so special in the early days was the implicit #SocialContract that we would all indulge in honest, stream-of-consciousness posting.

The moment corporate interests appeared, the honesty disappeared.

And, with each passing day, I see fewer and fewer stream-of-consciousness posts.

From what I see, everything is meticulously planned and scheduled threads filled with hollow posturing and shallow gloating.

But, I guess, Elon also probably prefers it that way. Hmmm...

businesses can align themselves with a social tolerance contract, "all who are tolerant welcome here"

I personally would choose to try to shop only at businesses displaying such a logo

Wool socks at the store: you expect the store to have some. You should be able to get some in exchange for money. If they can't, you find another store. That is your social contract with them.

Wool socks from a family member: no such #SocialContract. They have no obligation to give you will socks just because you push some money at them. If they do, you're thankful. And they expect no money.

Yes, the social contract of the world needs to be revisited.

The electric car is questionable, because we shouldn't be trying to find new energies for cars, we should be getting rid of the cars altogether... and this is not the most questionable example... what about all the resources devoted into crypto in the last years?

We need a social contract that enables for a more rational and humanity-as-a-whole centric allocation of resources.
