Does anyone have good suggestions for readings that make a connection of cybernetics and/or early computing with social media? I.e. the development of the sociotechnical foundations for "big data" today?

Currently using a chapter from Hayles's "How we became posthuman" around the defining of "information" but something that makes the connections more explicitly would be useful.
