Today there's some good news about the #politics in #Finland!

The popularity of the #conservative #FarRight government has fallen.

According to #Yle poll the 4 governing parties has 46,9 % support (We have a majority government tradition).

#NCP falls 2,2 %, #TheFinns 1 %, and the liberal #SPP 0,2 %, which already can be a crucial loss for them in the #EUelections next year - they can loose their only seat.

#SocialDemocrats take the lead with 22,8 % support.

Here's the latest from my ongoing translation of Rudolf Rocker's memoirs. I missed the past two weeks because I've been pretty overwhelmed with other work, which seems reasonable enough, but I really hate to say I'm going to do something (e.g., post weekly updates) and then not do it. So my apologies to anyone who's actually keeping up with this.

At any rate, this one deals with adolescent Rudolf and his earliest forays into socialist literature in his beloved uncle's apartment in Mainz. This is a short excerpt, but it says some things about the value of a culture that can foster a political imagination and pass on political ideas and experiences from one generation to the next. Both of these functions are often sorely lacking in our current moment (the latter in particular, given the enduring state of inter-generational rancor).

At any rate, enjoy it. As I've said before, this is a draft and may be edited before publication of the actual book (parts may even be deleted altogether). I should be back on schedule next week.

What I dislike the most about these discussions is that everyone generally involved in them is trapped in a liberal mindset.

Unless I speak up, it is rare even for self described #socialists to point out the fundamental purpose of the state is to use violence to enforce contracts, specifically as it relates to so-called #PropertyRights.

The purpose of the state itself is to perpetuate and defend capitalism, and even when the social democrats use the power of the state to reign in the worst excesses of capitalism -- not only is it temporary (because the #capitalist power is not crushed), it actually serves to stabilize the system itself.

So, even "big government" types like social democrats serve an important purpose under capitalism and the state, which is to help balance out the power in such a way as to try and keep the system stable.

It makes the right leaning liberals (proto-#fascists) and left leaning #liberals (#SocialDemocrats) both fundamentally #reactionary in different ways -- they are reacting to the problems of #capitalism, but coming to different conclusions on how to address it, without actually challenging the underlying system itself. For the right wing reactionaries, they target and blame minorities, and for the left leaning reactionaries they target and blame "the wealthy, greedy, corrupt #corporations." (Failing to realize, of course, that it is impossible for a #corporation to act any differently than they do -- it's like being angry at a wolf for eating a lamb. It's just what wolves do.)

It's one of the reasons it is important for people to develop a proper #socialist mindset.

Unfortunately, there is a segment of the left, be it #socialists, #communists, #socialdemocrats etc, who seem to think that to be #antiimperialist you must support the imperialism of any country not in Europe or North America. US and UK = bad. China and Russia = good. I am not one of those people. I am not a dipshit like #JimmyDore or #GlennGreenwald who calls for #Ukraine to appease Russia. I'm not sure that's how Lexiters saw their not to leave, but its turned out (for Europeans generally) to be a piece of political self-sacrifice... for which we are all paying!

Opinions in #Sweden are still pretty much divided in a pro-/contra-#SocialDemocrats dichotomy. Their dominance 1932-1976 is not yet forgotten.

The #SwedenDemocrats grew tremendously from 2006 to 2022 (from ~2% to ~20%). I can't remember anything similar in Swedish history, at least not since common suffrage was introduced ~1920.

I think one ought to be careful with equating election votes (for SD) with increased racism or anti-trans sentiments.

I have seen anarchists use this poster and maybe don't. Using a propaganda poster made by social Democrats does not send a good message. the SPD killed actual radicals in order to maintain there power.
