1) writing your own words with your name - they are yours no matter who tries to "scrape" them.

2) making friends - friendship is like a superpower that we all take for granted.

3) your family - family is complicated, but the power of family cannot be denied or stolen

4) your freedom - never ever take your freedom for granted. Never ever let anyone take that from you - at work, at home, anywhere.

I have been reading #DamonCentola's work with great interest, "How #behaviour spreads", the characteristics of #socialnetworks, short & long links, elements of competition... It seems obvious to me there's a lack of initiatives applying that knowledge to #climateaction... exchanges of ideas/experience welcome!

It seems now I have three places to be three versions of myself. And unsure of which is closest to my honest self. I wonder if people with Facebook face this conundrum, I’ve never really been there.

Here I am definitely not my most honest, perhaps the most publicly facing, but I temper my responses and replies, aware, or perhaps wary of the community into which they’re sent.

X has become even more of a tip fire, yet still find myself going there, and can certainly engage with people I follow with a more risqué edge to the interaction. It feels a more honest engagement between peers. #online #socialnetworks #twitter #bluesky #mastodon

Yesterday afternoon, I decided to conduct an experiment. Let me clarify, it holds no scientific validity. I'm connected to various people across multiple social networks. Some contacts overlap, others (like on #Facebook) are primarily known from 'real' life. I try to live with positivity and optimism, and this sentiment reflects in my posts on social networks. Any #algorithm should recognize this. However... in the #Fediverse, I see beautiful pictures, technical posts, constructive dialogues, occasional negativity, sporadic hate speech but, overall, the experience is relaxing, enjoyable, and pleasant 😌. On #Twitter and Facebook, on the other hand, I'm immediately confronted with irritating posts or normal posts filled with bickering comments. In general, the experience is much more negative, gloomy, and depressing 😞.

I've realized that the algorithm thrives on people's negativity. Irritated people engage more, respond more. In short, they use social media and see their ads more frequently.

I strongly feel that someone in this world has realized that there's much to gain from #angry people 😡.

Thanks to the collapse of the other #socialnetworks, some of us, myself included, discovered this side of the internet. I'm loving the #mastodon and every branch of the #fediverse. But I am wondering if there are other little-known corners of the #internet that are worth knowing without the need for this one to collapse.
