Dear fellow psychologists, have you ever heard of an effect somewhere between Pygmalion, placebo, Milgram where patients in psychiatry would have better performance in cognitive tasks than controls, simply due to the presence of their usual psychiatrist/carer/white blouse? Whereas control participants do not meet any white blouse person during the protocol and are recorded off the hospital premises.

I love that this piece addresses our , how it relates to , and what Rocky can teach us about why some people succeed and some people don't.

And it's NOT because unsuccessful people didn't try hard enough, didn't take enough responsibility, and didn't have enough grit.

It's time to end the notion that we are rugged individuals who win or lose based on our choices alone. We're in this together.

Q: Why do people remain biased even after psychologists have revealed their potential biases?

A: People have a "bias blind spot": They understand that biases exist but they fail to see them in their own attitudes and behaviour.
