@simon @6x6pix @starliteone as artists, you help people find each other through events and conversations. (The best #socialrecession antidote) And boycotting doesn't do much. Instead, use an alternative outreach method and advertise that you do. Like mastodon 😃
@simon @travisfw I may, as well. I've seen some interesting effects/reactions from others as I've gradually stopped using most social media (FB ~4 yrs ago, Twitter & IG in the past year). Some friends seem *really* bothered by not knowing or being able to track back to see what I've "been up to." I find this fascinating. Sometimes amusing, or irritating... but definitely fascinating.
Clearly #socialmedia can be both a cause of, and an antidote to, #socialrecession ...

Right. And people are working on it. Want to write more about it?

I just read this interesting piece in #TheGuardian, exploring the idea that we are in a #SocialRecession.
It harks back to, then updates, the trends that were pointed out around the turn of the millenium in works like “Bowling Alone”. They appear to have been supercharged by the rise of online life, and particularly by Big Tech’s exploitative practices, turning us into grist for their “attention economy”.
