This makes me a little sad. #PopeFrancis had previously shown a lot of openness to a more pragmatic view on abdication. These are important roles and we need them to be filled by people who know they can do the job most effectively. There's not a lot of value in weighing lower-case t "traditions" against the needs of the #Church.
