Ta da! โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ๐
Apologies for the blurriness of some of the photos but I was enjoying swooshing around too much. ๐
This was so much fun to wear and the gig was an amazing success.
I never thought Iโd be signing with a queer choir in Newcastle cathedral for Pride month. It was quite an emotional evening. โค๏ธ๐ญ๐คฉ๐๐
(And I admit, answering the question of โwhere did you get your dress?โ with โI made it.โ was an extra special cherry on top!)

And it is done! ๐ฑ
Photos to follow after the gig tonight! ๐คฉ
Wish us luck! ๐๐๐
A verbal update only today as it turns out getting a picture of the inserted godets is pretty tricky. ๐
The dress is constructed and is now hanging so the fabric can drop before hemming.
Iโve also got to remove visible basting stitches and loose thread ends.
Do any #sewing folk have suggestions on finishing the godet seam allowances? I donโt technically have to because of the knit fabric but the inside looks messy.
So after a whole day sewing, I have a bodice with a finished hood! I have technically sewn the hood on inside out (the colour was meant to be the lining) but I think it kind of works this way too. And the drape is generous enough to allow me to flip it the other way without it looking out of place so I can live with that mistake. ๐
The black fabric is a loose knit so sheds a lot when cut on the bias but thank goodness for overlockers!
After many hours the hood is in one piece! ๐๐คฉ๐
Itโs tricky to photograph on its own but Iโm pretty happy with it. Iโm probably going to steam it with the clips in place as I have learned from previous experience that irons and velvet are not friends. ๐
Well. It turns out that taking into account the number of colours, the mirroring, the seam allowance, and the fabric nap is somewhat of a complex puzzle! ๐ฑ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
I think this will be most of tomorrowโs work. ๐ Iโve only basted it so far. Iโll have to take the plunge and then sew and then cut it! ๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป
Supplies purchased! I wasnโt going to go with velvet but then I found a full โsetโ of the colours I needed in the same type of fabric.
Managed to get a light(er) weight black knit as the main fabric (you can see a tiny bit of it in the photo) because I figured that a stretch velvet dress at the end of June was optimistic, even with British weather. ๐
Next steps, the cutting out of the godets and the figuring out of how the hood lining might work. ๐ค
Iโm going with a sleeveless โsociety dressโ (from Gertie/Charm patterns) with full length godet skirt and cowl hood.

The skirt has six godets so, if all goes to plan, Iโm โsneakingโ the original pride flag into the skirt. Iโm also going to attempt to line the hood using the same colours (I think that will be the trickiest part for me).
Iโm off to my local fabric shop later to get supplies. Wish me luck! ๐
