Pinar Selek, a Turkish sociologist, storyteller, writer and anti-militarist and eco-feminist activist, is a victim of persecution in her own country.
pinarselek.fr/

Judicial harassment, masculinist harassment, anti-scientific harassment, she is accused of carrying out an attack on a market in Istanbul.

The hearing on 29 September 2023 is approaching.

A new book by Pinar Selek, published by Editions des femmes Antoinette Fouque, will be in bookshops from 5 October: Le chaudron militaire turc. An example of the production of male violence.

Pinar Selek looks at the different stages in the construction of male hegemonic domination, trying to "fathom the darkness that turns a baby into a murderer".
Her initial fieldwork in 2007 brought her into contact with men from very different geographical origins and social backgrounds, spanning several generations, who all had in common that they had been conscripted into Turkey's military service. This was the subject of her first book, Service militaire en Turquie et construction de la classe de sexe dominante - Devenir homme en rampant (L'Harmattan, 2014).

should be a much more common tag in the Fediverse

Legacy of racist US housing policies extends even to bird data
"....Ellis-Soto and his team studied bird sightings in more than 9,000 neighbourhoods, covering almost 200 US cities....
“You can better predict where you have data on birds based on systemic racism — redlining maps from 1933 — than climate, tree cover or population density, everything a bird should actually care about”

We're* running a superb author workshop right now.

*Next year, the corresponding volume will be published in German by Springer VS: a proposal for a "variant" reading of digital valuation practices. "Varieties of digital valuation," to be precise.

If I wanted to grok Weber's view of values as someone who doesn’t read German, what should I be reading? There is the Parsons translation of “The Theory of Social and Economic Organization”, but what else? Other translations? Particularly good explanations?

"For many people searching for a much-needed sense of escapism from the realities of the economic issues and political unrest, Europe has come to represent not simply a continent, but also a state of mind — a place to put on a flowy skirt and live a slower life. Unfortunately, none of that exists beyond a vacation or TikTok packing video."

There are exceedingly adroit benefits to one’s sociological criticism in being a Neo-Freudian that non-Neo-Freudians will never comprehend.
