Wow. What this suggests to me is that they got to a point where it didn't matter what policy they were going to impose (segregation, abortion, don't say gay, whatever) as long as they could be the ones to dictate to the country. If so, they're still at that point.

In the USA, we have a #president who is a serious #RomanCatholic. This is not a very big deal, in comparison to all the fuss in the 1960 election, when many #Protestants had their knickers in a twist. They feared that John Kennedy would take orders from the #pope.

Hey #sociologyofreligion, in my historical chapter I refer to the US government's "legal and political feud with the new Mormon Church." They don't want to be called that anymore. But it's 19th century history. So I guess I will add, "now known as..." I support the right of self-determination in religious naming. But the right to change your group's history is a little different.
