I don't.
I think that there're varying degrees of humanity and self interest that can be measured in an X axis that looks a lot like #Empathy ranging from none to consuming. The problem with labeling things as #Evil (way on the None side) is that there are pathologies that make it possible to do things that are on the None side, #Sociopathy is one and #Narcissism is another.

I hypothesize that most humans can't go all the way to None without causing injury to themselves. #LtCalley

Is trump's behavior surprising to people because it's impossible for a person who experiences #empathy to empathize with #sociopathy?

What would make some people, some of the time, behave like idiots?#Idiocracy is positively correlated with ignorance, however, in some cases the idiots can be more informed than most people in a population (i.e., in a country). For example, in the 1970’s the fossil fuel industry’s ‘management’ were informed by their own scientists that their fuel products were causing the climate to change. But the idiot management decided an action plan aimed at spreading doubt about that science (their own internal memos proved they were informed of the science but tried to repress that research). The idiots were driven by a profit agenda rather than an honesty agenda.

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time studying the #science of human #psychology to try and understand why some people behave like idiots (in some social situations). Although, it has been said that you can’t educate people by calling them stupid. But what if they’re acting objectively stupidly and react in subjective stupid ways when their stupid behaviours are challenged? If the truth is that some adults are behaving like idiots, then, of course they’re the people where ‘#education’ has already failed them.

#Sociopathy refers to a pattern of antisocial behaviors and attitudes, including manipulation, deceit, aggression, and a lack of empathy for others. Sociopathy is a non-diagnostic term, and it is not synonymous with "psychopathy," though the overlap leads to frequent confusion. Sociopathy refers more broadly to social manipulation. So, whilst we may try to influence other people, manipulation infers a social context where one person, or organisation, aims to manipulate others in ways that the sociopath knows is against the other persons consent. For example, nobody wants to be deceived in ways that may cause them harm. Sociopaths may or may not break the law, but by exploiting and manipulating others, they violate the trust that the human enterprise runs on.

Therefore, the world’s largest fossil fuel companies are managed by #sociopaths. They know that their products are extremely harmful to human health and ecology in general, but they use social manipulation to try and deceive people. Furthermore, these sociopaths are making ‘record’ profits.

#SeaLioning and #trolling seem like prototypical #sociopathy to me. Specifically, I'd expect they coincide with road rage, stalking and other banal cruelties. Is this true? Or are these behaviors more widespread and present in everyone to some degree?
