That depends among other things on the economic model underlying the instance the Mastodon Hivemind is anchored in.

An attractive instance could draw more funding since users don’t want to lose it.

It could also be part of their identity. Or a moral obligation conjured up by the user group.

A not so bad starting point to think about this is the speculative model of presented in the series by @adapalmer — mentioned several times here in#fediverse.
