Also, #Mastodon needs to fix the thing where the URL for a suspended account is a 404 -- even in the multi-column view.
What happens:
I see an account sign up that looks like a spambot. I click on it to look at the account's profile. I go into the admin view and suspend the account, then return to the regular view. I refresh the page to make the suspended account go away from my notifs -- and the entire page becomes a failephant. I have to manually edit the URL or use the back-arrow on the browser to see my feeds again.
It shouldn't be a 404; it should say "account suspended" or (if there's no way to tell the difference between "suspended" and "nonexistent") "account not found".
The "Media" option for viewing toots on a profile is almost useless because it won't take you to the post. #WTF, #Mastodon?? (Workaround: right-click and open link in new tab -- but it should open the post by default, not just expand the image.)
Also, there should be a way to see just the posts (no boosts). A set of filter-switches (instead of just the three tabs -- "Posts", "Posts and replies", and "Media") like on the Notifications column would be kind of obviously a good solution.
The way styles are handled in #LibreOffice Writer really needs to be looked at.
It's unclear how to set which attributes a style modifies and which it leaves alone.
It's also unclear how to tell it to apply the style to a given selection. Double-clicking the style sometimes works and sometimes seems to have no effect. There are a number of options in the right-click menu, but "Apply" is not one of them. (There should also be "modify from selection", which should work the same as "Styles -> Update Selected Style", but there isn't.)
It would also be nice if it could be set to apply different attributes to different parts of the selection (maybe using regex? ...at least as an option) so that e.g. the first word could be bold, following words until the first dash could be regular, remaining text could be italic -- things like that, so I wouldn't have to manually apply those formats (or sub-styles) over and over again.
So I wonder do the people who work at Samsung Mobile ever drive? I mean, my #galaxywatch is connected to my Galaxy phone, which is connected to Android Auto in my car, and my watch is always telling me to get up and have a walk. Dude, I'm driving! #softwareGripe
#Mastodon/#GlitchSoc wish item: checkbox to disable auto-looping of videos.
Better yet, don't loop them by default (honestly, who ever thought that was a good idea?) and maybe provide an "enable" checkbox for the people who like it.
(...Does anyone actually like it? :blobcatupsidedown:)
Just as an example of how the new matching-autofill in Kate messes me up:
I have
GetCard[$id];
I want to replace the '[' and ']' with '(' and ')'.
I highlight the '[' and type '(', then highlight the ']' and type ')'.
I end up with this bullshit:
GetCard([)$id)](;
#WTF how can I turn this off please. (I've tried all the options I could think of.) #softwareGripe
Can I just, like, get a coding team to rewrite #Kdenlive's UI so it makes sense to me?
I want envelopes, and I want to be able to change which video track takes precedence, but it won't Do The Thing (though I swear it used to, this was very doable the last time I used it)... and also why is there no "rewind to start" or "play from start" button?
And why am I apparently the only one who has these problems?
Now there's a bit of a UI design issue.
I had started a post, and typed quite a lot of it, but was waiting for an image to upload.
While I was waiting, I started reading other stuff, whereupon I realized I wanted to edit something I'd posted earlier, and hit the "edit" option without thinking about it.
The UI didn't ask if I wanted to overwrite what I was currently working on, and ctrl-Z won't bring it back.
Trying to report someone (because even as an admin, I don't think there's any other way to attach posts to an action) and...
[1] No matter which post I start with, at least one of the other posts I want to include is missing. [edit: turns out it was in there but pre-checked, which made me think it was a different one I had manually checked. I think the real problem here is that the reporting dialogue is this narrow pseudo-window that can't be expanded, so you can't get a good overview of what's there.]
[2] The UI shows me a selection of things posted by the user recently, whether or not they're in the same thread (it's the thread I'm mainly interested in, but okay) -- but the times are shown as absolute [edit: on reopening the report, they're now shown relative. Brainfail here? Or maybe some are absolute and some are relative? Argggh.], which makes it difficult to compare match the chronology with the posts I'm trying to find.
(Would prefer all timestamps to be absolute, for multiple reasons, but it could be a user option if some people actually prefer the fuzzy timestamps. To me, it just seems like a marketing/engagement gimmick, which we certainly don't need here.)
Either I am misunderstanding the functionality this is describing, or else #Kate is doing this thing anyway even when I have told it not to (box unchecked).
This is constantly leaving me with accidental syntax errors. 😶
Has anyone else tried using #QasMixer?
https://wooz.dev/QasMixer
TLDR: It's solid and a very good start, BUT....
(This isn't exactly a #softwareGripe, except maybe the bit about not being able to select multiple sliders.)
If link previews (e.g. to videos) are going to be marked "sensitive" when there's a CW, rather than just being hidden until the CW is opened, then there ought to be a way to undo that default the way there is for attached images.
Also, why doesn't Masto's HTML support/allow the <detail> and <summary> tags? That would be very helpful for selective hiding of content. #softwareGripe
Inquiring minds want to know why #MediaWiki's "frame[d]"/"border" image options don't seem to support resizing. #softwareGripe
I truly do not know where this image will appear, nor why 2:1 is a good aspect ratio for it.
It certainly does not show up as the favicon.
The /favicon.ico file doesn't show up as the favicon, either.
I can't find any information about this in the official admin docs, either either.
It would help if the official docs had a native search function, since they've taken it out of github which did have one. #softwareGripe
In case I haven't already, let me reiterate that this is just bad.
What if I want to import from another machine, or a backup? It should at least give me the opportunity to browse for folders that might contain settings, and then try to import them.
...but no, I guess #Firefox Knows Best. (Pro-tip: no it doesn't. Theory: It just wants to force me to sign up for its sync service. That's... entirely daft. Or corporate, I guess. Hard to tell the difference, sometimes.)
#softwareGripe There seems to be absolutely no way to turn off this notification -- and I get it repeatedly, even when I'm just sitting still.
I do like how the MATE "document scanner" app now has a refresh button so you can re-scan for scanner devices.
I don't particularly like that it never works and I still have to force-quit the app in order to get it to see the scanner again after there's been an error.
"Too many open files"? Why, exactly, do you have all those files open at once, #Nextcloud?
Glad you could finally get around to actually synching stuff after only, what, 2-3 days of "checking", though.
So, yeah, I could have saved several hours of work if, when I tried to use the "import XML" option, #KWallet had just popped up a dialog saying "This feature requires en existing wallet into which to import. Either open one or create a new one."
Offering to create a new wallet if you don't already have one would also have been helpful, but just that information alone could have saved all that time.
Alternatively, they could have put all the features that work with an open wallet into a menu-entry called "wallet", or similar, and have it greyed out when you don't have an open wallet selected.
#kwallet needs to give more useful error messages, and also when it can't open a dialog box it needs to give a message explaining why.
