#Git annoyance, trying my luck here in the fediverse.

My `~/.gitconfig` includes another config file which specifies `core.filemode=false`.

But every time I clone a repository, a config file gets generated in the project's `.git/config` path which overrides the value to true.

I can't seem to find out where these defaults come from and how to fix it.
I've also tried adding the config to the system-wide `/etc/gitconfig` file but still no luck.

My own approach to #interviewing candidates in recent years has been giving them a real world skeleton class. It's meant to simulate real day to day #softwaredev work, which to be honest, is pretty easy and boring. The goal isn't to test #programming skills, it's really to understand how a person communicates. Unless you're a real outlier, most people improve at any given skill if they do it every day, so accepting good dev skills and great communication is more valuable to me.

A great podcast episode. Jodie Burchell helps explain the directions between software developers and data scientists. Both professions have overlapping tools, like Python, but use them to achieve different goals.

As a long term professional software developer, I have a healthy scepticism for the capabilities of the new waves of AI systems (if you know how the sausage is made, etc ..)

But if there is one domain they are perfect for - albeit very niche - it's generating regular expression patterns from natural language descriptions of the intended match.

They're explicit, not open to interpretation (unlike, apparently, the explicit laws of cricket) and immediately verifiable.

#ChatGPT even gives a little explanation of the generated expression. Although it could turn down the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation perkiness a bit!
