@t54r4n1 I wouldn't discount sexism being there, but the part of a 'recipe' that can't be copyrighted is the abstract procedure of what ingredients get added in what order, etc.

A specific written recipe (blog entry, cookbook page, etc.) *can* and generally is copyrighted by default. Working around the copyright generally involves rewriting the recipe in your own words.

Likewise, an *algorithm* can't be copyrighted, but an implementation of it written as code can be. Working around the copyright similarly involves doing a re-implementation of it, writing the code yourself.

The crap part is when we allowed algorithms to be de facto *patented* (even though they legally shouldn't be!) by allowing the "application of" loophole to be stretched almost infinitely large. IMO it's the patent issue, not copyright, that is really problematic w/r/t software.

@nixCraft Sadly, that's exactly what #Oracly did when they were allowed to buy #SunMicrosystems and basically destroy #OpenSolaris as well as declare the #SoftwarePatents - #ceasefire against #FLOSS null and invalid.

Software patents are bad for us. At least at this point in time: Too much is left to be grasped by lawmakers about all the different aspects of "software", before they are able to make appropriate and actual helpful rulings.

I was already worried years ago when #EFF refused to join the fight against #SoftwarePatents and somehow claimed it could be saved. Now they are defending the Tornado Cash crypto tumbler. I am even more disappointed.
