Needed a hike after the past weeks of heat and #ClimateCrises in the news. Oxley provides that place of #Solace and @Wonder that we all need. We are early in #Migration, but are seeing an amazing number of #Warblers already. I wonder if the spike in migration is related to the #Fires in Canada = purely conjecture on my part, not even at hypothesis rank.
This is one of my favorites, a #NortherParula. Their call reminds me of a small #VibroSeis running through a sweep. They can be very gregarious if you are lucky. and talk to them softly.

#SilentSunday. After the horrendous news cycle of the past week it is easy to get sucked into a cycle of doom. We all need a place of #Solace and #Serenity where we can sit and #Calm the inner turmoil. This is my place - a place to watch #Waterfowl, hear the thousands of bird calls, and the whisper of wind in the budding trees. There is new growth in the forest as it awakens. The warblers are returning from their wintering grounds, adding their voices to the air. The Gnatcatchers are building their first nests, planning for new life, and the Hawks are sitting on eggs that will soon hatch. Life goes on despite the turmoil, and hatred that is consuming the country. I will let those go for this day.

WIth a cast like Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell et al, it should have not been quite so clunky, but left in the hands of a fairly greenhorn director (Brazilian Afonso Poyart, who did little before or since) probably was not a good sign.

Give me the hush
of a pillowed January morning,
snug as a fur-robed ermine

This, again is at #OxleyNatureCenter, my prime focus area to help restore wetland systems, and improve people’s understanding of the importance of #Wetlands, #Floodplains, #Grasslands and #LowlandForests with #HydricSoils, and the importance of access to #Nature. We all need the #Solace of #Nature to help maintain balance. These systems are perfect habitats for overwintering #Birds. There are hundreds of birds in this photo, all hidden in the habitat. The habitat also includes #Waterfowl, #Hawks, #Woodpeckers, #Beaver, and #Muskrats along with #Deer, #Racoons, and #Coyotes. A walk here is like being in Nirvana with the lush sounds, sights and smells.

We all need the #Peace and #SolaceInNature that hikes in #Nature and at #WildlifeSanctuaries offer. I hike regularly seeking #Solitude and #Solace. After 36 years in #HigherEd, I have become a bit #Apanthropic in my old age. These are from an interaction between #HoodedMergansers at #OxleyNatureCenter. They graced me by allowing my presence for several minutes (and too many photos) as they went through their courting dance. These #Ducks depend on #Wetlands for survival.
