A new claim for a room temperature superconductor was made. Best to wait and see if this claim is valid.

"While the announcement has been greeted with enthusiasm by some scientists, others are far more cautious, pointing to the research group’s controversial history of alleged research malfeasance."

I have a question for the / / people here: We have conservation of quasi-momentum for phonons on crystal lattices, and when we decrease the lattice length a, this asymptotically turns into normal conservation of momentum as the Brillouin zone gets arbitrarily large. This sounds like it has something to do with the crystal lattice symmetry group asymptotically turning into a continuous translation symmetry group. 🧵

If you're interested in the history of , have a couple of weeks (or months) to spare, & can find a decently priced second-hand copy, the nearly 700 pages of Out of the Crystal Maze are well worth a read.

Interesting article on the 2019 IEEE Medal of Honor winner, Kurt Petersen, who became an accidental evangelist for MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) after seeing a stain on a lab floor.
