I have a question for the #physics / #solidstatephysics / #quantumfieldtheory people here: We have conservation of quasi-momentum for phonons on crystal lattices, and when we decrease the lattice length a, this asymptotically turns into normal conservation of momentum as the Brillouin zone gets arbitrarily large. This sounds like it has something to do with the crystal lattice symmetry group asymptotically turning into a continuous translation symmetry group. 🧵
