I'm wondering what other think about the "idea that only one's mind is sure to exist".
"Solipsism" has never been a concern for me... Perhaps as an I compensate for my weaker , but I have no difficulty believing that other people have their own mind!

"Where do wasps fit into the simulation?" is, from here on out, my only response to anyone bringing up the simulation hypothesis.

@OkieSpaceQueen In the last 50 years, perhaps starting even earlier, there has been a drift toward all the way to the halls of academia.

There is a reluctance to call "bullshit" and a tendency toward both-sides-ism and a 24/7 media that fills airtime with it.

All men might be created equal, but their ideas--even if called free speech--are not. Repeating the refrains of Chicken Little may help ratings, but does not serve the discourse.

Gaddammit, it happened again.

Someone posted this damn ("The circle has no yellow in it, yo?")

The first image has been circulating for awhile. It's an example of the Munker-White's illusion, or the Bezold effect, and it's well understood.

I made this tryptych image back in 2020, to demonstrate what's going on. I do kind of know what I'm talking about here, since I was a TV/Film for many years.

The second panel is the first panel blurred. You can clearly see that the "yellow" circle is grey.

But, the third panel demonstrates that when you remove the color cast from the entire image, the circle becomes yellow. (In the first image, your brain perceives it as "yellow-er" than the blue background).

This is what your brain is doing all the time, as you move through different lighting conditions which is how you can still tell someone is wearing a green shirt, in a room with only red lights, so long as there are other colors in the room to compare it to.

When I tried to explain relative color perception to this person, the whole thread devolved into one of the dumbest conversations I've ever had about absolute vs. relative truth, statistics sample size, and how we can "never be really sure of anything," including when we measure temperature with a thermometer.

GAAAHHHHH!

New Rule: Optical illusions, outside of a *strict scientific context* having to do with understanding and the brain's visual system are a Trojan Fucking Horse for

People, please stop using optical illusions, to push and

Actually, Cartesian solipsism might be true. Or at least I find the pragmatist argument, that even Cartesian meditation must assume more than oneself, like language, awkwardly rationalist. Sure, a Cartesian I has extension, involves capability of thought or experience - and that may be pragmatically included. Sure, language, gods, and demons are not certain by , and I as well am team 'socialuty first, individuality later' However, assuming solipsism was true, the solipsist may doubt reading or telling aboug . We just cannot know, thus our reasoning should be bound to something else but fascination with statements' capacity for transcendation. It should be joy, wealth, being able to like and affirm your existence, not whatever we believe about certainty, , and the medium we assume to discuss and re/think that in.

Snail Solipsism

Solipsistic snails dreaming of being
the dream of a walrus, a unicorn, maybe,
not knowing nobody knows
who exists, who doesn’t,
but knowing by tiny beating snail heart
there are trees under the snow of
the sunken city marble eaten away
by currents carrying stoic fish,
ignorant of questioning dreamers
and their unlayering of realities inside mathematically sequenced shells

I don't even exist.

= A statement that is logically or literally true (or partly true), but seems to imply something that isn’t true or is just plain weird. (for rhetoric, logic or propaganda studies… or just for fun)
